Osheaga -Perfect way to end off July/Thnx Dad
This past Sunday, I was able to score a ticket to Osheaga. It was my first time at this festival, I’ve been wanting to go for quite some time. I got to see Cypress Hill, Tragically Hip and a little bit of Death Cab for Cutie. They were all incredible, the last time I say Cypress Hill was when they were in Montreal in 1993, with The Fugees and A tribe Called Quest.I was 8 years old at that show, and I will nevertheless still never forget it. Cypress put on a high energy performance, performing a lot of their classics, and mixing in material from their latest album. It was really mind blowing to see A Hip-Hop act , followed by The Tragically Hip.An amazing contrast of sounds, and a nice change of pace, musically. The Hip did not disapoint, the crowd was totally into it,that’s the feeling that makes an outdoor festival so unforgettable. Not to take anything away from Cypress, the crowd was lighting up and rocking out with them too! I’ve always been a big fan of The Tragically Hip, I kept on hoping they would play ahead by a century, and then they did. Although, I make Hip-Hop music, I love bands, I love Music no matter the style of genre. Music, for me is the strongest form of communication. A song can make u smile, make u cry. It can put u in the exact moment, when u first heard that song, re-iterating what you felt at that time.In my 25 years, Music is the constant shrink in my life. This is probably the reason Its so close to my heart.Music is my release and my escape. When I listen to John Lennon, The Doors, Jay Z or Biggie. They all put me in different states of mind. But the best artists, make u feel like they are literally right next to you. When I would listen to Reasonable Doubt, Jay Z’s debut album, I felt like he was sitting right next to me in my black civic. That’s what makes him who he is.The best music hits you in your soul, hits u in your heart. All this to say, without music, I wouldn’t be who I am today. So thank you Dad, for raising me on The Beatles, Paul Simon, Janis Joplin.Thank u for instilling this love in my heart, love for the stage, the studio. For the drive and determination to follow my dreams at Any cost.
